SUMMER MEANS VACATION TIME!
With the 4th of July upon us, you may be thinking, "Where can we vacation without spending hundreds of dollars?" First of all, refuse to fall prey to the "seven-days-at-the-beach" vacation trap. When God created the world, he rested for one day, not seven. Several single-or-double day vacations can be as refreshing as one long one. (Not to mention that one day vacations don't allow your desk or laundry to pile up so high either.)
Secondly, choose activities you enjoy. What will make you feel more like yourself? What will refresh the good qualities God has granted you? An exception to this rule is choosing to enjoy something your spouse or child enjoys.
Thirdly, look for resources in your community. Do you enjoy museums? Great! Visit one near you. Do picnics relax you? If so, choose a site a friend has enjoyed. Do you want an overnight-get-away without the phone? Check into a local motel and leave your cell phone at home! Many that cater to business travelers offer discounts on weekends. And, of course, there's always the bargain auction websites to find a great price on a hotel get away at a great price.
Fourthly, investigate vacation possibilities within a three-hour radius of your home. Are there caves to tour? Mountains to climb? Sights to see? Parks to enjoy? Landmarks to learn from?
Once you've discovered vacations spots that are time wise, consider those that also are money wise. Then, expand upon these free or inexpensive possibilities.
Hopefully, you can put some of these ideas into play for a last minute short, but enjoyable, get away to relax and celebrate Independence Day!
