Did You Back It Up
We've always been told to back-up our data….do you? How often? Where is your backup? Have you begun scanning your documents and destroying the original paperwork? If so, backups are even more important.
You can always backup to an external hard drive, so if your main hard drive crashes your data is still available. What if something were to physically happen to your home or office (e.g., water pipe break)? Your computer and the external hard drive could both be damaged.
Backing your data up online to the cloud "internet" is a solution. These backups can be scheduled in advance to run on a regular basis. Here are four online backup companies:
-
Crashplan+ - $24.99/year for 10 GB of data backed-up. Security is 448-bit Blowfish encryption. I've heard multiple experts present on technology over the last 6 month, and they all recommend Crashplan as the best backup solutions provider
-
Carbonite - $59/year for unlimited data back-up. Security is 128-bit Blowfish encryption
-
IDrive – 5 GB of data can be backed-up for free. $4.95/month for 150 GB. Security is 256-bit AES encryption
-
Mozy – $5.99/month for 50 GB. Security is 448-bit Blowfish encryption or your own personal key with 256-bit AES encryption
