Blog: Fear Your Computer No More!
My 4 Favorite Organizing Softwares
You know, I was having a nice brainstorming session with my office mate and we were talking about our favorite computer software programs that make our lives so much easier. Which helped spawn our latest blog post. We are going to take a quick look at my top four softwares that help keep my little life in order, why I love them and how I make them work for me.
My all time favorite is Outlook. Does this really require an indepth description as to why I love it? Not really. Some of the basics are being able to flag specific emails by color in 2003 Outlook, keeping my appointments in order, finding lost but not forgotten email addresses, and managing my coorespondence. Pretty easy, really.
OneNote comes in a close second. From organizing my podcasts, helping with the research, crazy ideas, and sample art work, OneNote does it all! If you are a student, OneNote is the perfect tool to use to help you organize and manage your lecture notes or research paper. If you are an admin, holy cow! Do you know the power OneNote has for helping you control all of the crazy meetings you have to manage? Think of OneNote as your "soft" notebook. It's perfect!
This next one is going to sound a little crazy to you, but I'm an out of the box sort of gal, so it shouldn't suprise you too much! PowerPoint. I actually use PowerPoint to help me with some basic mindmapping. I know there are lots of free software programs out there, but the new version of PowerPoint 2007 is incredible and it's so much fun! All of the great colors and shapes, is just so inspiring to me. If I have to start thinking about new work instructions or if I need to determine if a new marketing idea is worth it, I map it out in PowerPoint and then I implement or trash it.
How many of you have lost all of their contacts when your computer crashes? Talk about a painful lesson to learn! It's horrible! Well, I have just started using Plaxo in the last couple of months and what I have found to be the one priceless innovation of the software is the fact that it houses all of the contacts you have synced to it on their system. If your computer is fried, your contacts are not lost, my dear friend. You may have lost all of your emails and your files, but your contacts are alive and kicking!
What sort of computer software do you rely on more than the oxygen you breathe?
Happy Organizing!
