CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWN 2012
Perhaps it's time to change your Christmas routine from sleepless nights wrapping presents and rushing to 24 hour stores for last minute gifts, to preplanning that can make the week before Christmas more relaxed and restful. It might be nice if I could add more hours to your day, but even if I could, I'm afraid you'd just become more frazzled and frantic. Instead, I'll offer a few suggestions that might help you plan ahead for next year and some might even still help for this year.
• Buy a couple of gifts each week and wrap and tag them when you get them home or use the free service at stores offering this option.
• Begin your catalog and online shopping early in case items received need to be exchanged.
• Buy stocking stuffers gradually while on vacation or whenever you find something unusual. Also, if you select a lot of stocking stuffer gifts, store them in paper grocery bags marked with a name for each person on your list.
• Locate all of last year's wrapping paper and ribbon that you plan to recycle. Discard what's not usable; get the rest ready by cutting away ragged edges, pressing wrinkled paper with a warm iron and straightening wrinkled ribbon with a curling iron, but are you sure you really want to keep doing this when the dollar store's are around now???? It might be a better use of your time to use old wrinkled wrapping paper as packing material for those easy to use gift bags!
• Buy more tape, wrapping paper and enclosure cards…unless you or the kids make them out of old Christmas cards for you.
• If you're short on storage space, set up a card table and cover it with holiday plaid material or a tablecloth that reaches to the floor. Tuck all your gift wrapping supplies under the table.
I hope some of these tips will help you a bit this year and especially next year as you plan to be better organized for Christmas 2013!
