Blog: Technology As An Organizing Tool
Organize Movies the Easy Way
If you're a movie fan who likes to organize information, you may have thought about setting up a database in Access or some other program to keep track of your collection and possibly other movies you've gone to see, rented, watched on TV. Or maybe you've thought about saving time by buying special software such as Movie Collector, All My Movies, or Movie Organizer Deluxe.
But really, why would you bother, when the folks at The Internet Movie Database (IMDb) have already done all the work for you? If you're not familiar with this website, it's a comprehensive and up-to-date database of movies that includes everything from cast to shooting locations.
If you're wondering how this can help you to keep track of YOUR movies, sign up for a free membership and search for one of the titles in your collection. Click on "Add to My Movies" (at the left of your screen). You can then assign a category such as "Must See," "To Buy," "VHS" or "DVD". There's no need to enter the genre or any other information, because it's already in the database.
Each time you watch a movie, you can rate it on a scale from 1 to 10 – this will not only be calculated into the User Rating shown for that movie, but your vote will always be visible to you when you're logged into the site, confirming that you have in fact seen that movie.
