Blog: Settling Into Your New Home
A ''Baking Zone'' for the Holidays
The holidays are just around the corner and moving into a new home at this time of year can be an arduous task. Celebrations, parties, concerts and making memories with loved ones are all part of this time of year. So are gingerbread houses, plates of delectable goodies and spiced apple cider. Baking is often a favorite pastime during the holidays. If you love to make homemade treats for the holidays, a designated and well organized ''Baking Zone'' makes your holiday baking more enjoyable.
The best place for a ''Baking Zone'' is near the oven. You'll need everything close at hand to help your recipes come together smoothly If possible, designate one cabinet or shelf to house baking supplies. Group like items together: ingredients, measuring tools, utensils, mixing bowls, spices, extracts, favorite cookbooks and baking pans. Labeling and grouping items together will help them find their home again, and make them accesible. Lazy susans and small trays or containers to hold smaller items together make locating and clean up a snap. Also, be sure to have your mixer or food processor within (or next to) your ''Baking Zone''.
With just a few small changes and some forethought, your home kitchen can hum like a well oiled machine. Letting you enjoy what you do there - making memories and turning out great things to eat!
