The RIGHT Way to Deal with LEFTOVERS
Just about now we're all feeling fat and sassy, forked and hoofed, or steamed and roasted.
It's time to address those leftovers staring us straight in the eye. Stop! I don't mean those ones in the refrigerator, lurking under the tin foil. I'm talking about all those little loose ends of things that have been gnawing at you, just under your skin.
This final week of the year is a grand time to dust off that great To Do List and see what's eating at you. Perhaps you wrote that list last January with visions of vigor, determined to do so much in 2007 or you put together the world's longest list of To Dos in early December and you've made it half way through that list. Either list or no list at all, are there some things you wanted to complete this year?
Tomorrow morning set your clock to get up 15 minutes before everyone else. Get a great cup of something to start your day and with a pad of paper and pen climb into your favorite chair and sit. Sit still and think about what's left over on that list. What had you wanted to do but just never got around to it?
Ask your self is this still important to me. Is it something I should be doing or can I delegate it to someone else? Is this a" must do" or a "would like to do"?
Write down a few sentences that come to mind as you answer the above. Now ask yourself, what's been holding me back from doing this? Write that down as well.
If your leftover(s) is still important to you, ask yourself, "What's one thing I could do today that would move me closer to getting this completed?" Write that down. Is it someone I could call; is it a website I need to look up; is it a resource I need to locate; what new information am I needing to move this item forward?
Next, look at your calendar and write yourself in there. You've got just a few days remaining of the old year. Set some time with yourself to clean up as many of these loose ends as possible.
With apologies to Ralph Waldo Emerson:
Finish each YEAR and be done with it. You have done what you could.
Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can; tomorrow is a new YEAR; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.
Until next Year…
Making Your Space a Special Place.
