Blog: Just Do It… Finding The Motivation
Motivation Comes in Pairs
Is your clutter a dirty little secret? Are you convinced you are the only one in the world who lives the way you do? Please, please let me put your mind at ease! You most definitely are NOT alone!
It's so easy to get discouraged and lose ground in our organizing endeavors when we go it alone or feel no one could possibly understand what we are going through. That's why it's important to get yourself a clutter buddy of sorts.
To keep you motivated to get organized, pair up with someone. That person can:
-- listen
-- lend a hand
-- call to see how things are going
-- join you in celebrating each victory, no matter how small
-- bring objectivity into the picture
-- keep you focused
-- help you think clearly as you make your decisions
-- remind you of your successes
-- validate your feelings
-- encourage you
-- help you find places to donate your items
-- help you make your donations
-- help you set up a garage sale
-- remind you of your goals and dreams
-- hold you accountable
-- make the time go by faster
Those are just some of the advantages of having someone to pair up with when you start organizing. There are support groups in various parts of the country and online for people who may not be comfortable having a family member or close friend be their clutter busting partner. Some people opt for an organizing coach or hire the services of a professional organizer.
Check out the referral system here at OnlineOrganizing. Google "clutter support groups", "organizing support groups", or such to see what may be in your area. Go to www.napo.net to find an organizer or organizing coach who lives in your neck of the woods.
Bottom line? You don't have to hide out any longer and drudge through this alone. There are sooooo many people in this busy society of ours that are wanting to be more organized. Hoarding and pack rat tendencies are receiving more media attention and research is producing new organizing and counseling techniques to help these individuals. Regardless of your situation, help is there.
As we start this new year of new possibilities and opportunities, seriously consider who you can pair up with to keep you motivated with your organizing goals. Happy New Year and Happy Organizing!

About Nancy:
I'm a mom, wife, professional organizing consultant and speaker, and a former Early Childhood educator. A personal crisis in my own life took me from perfectionism to total mayhem. I want neither. I'm now all about balance and being realistic about what I and my clients can maintain. My organizing business Real Solutions For Living was started to: 1) let people know they are not alone in their struggle to overcome clutter chaos, 2) to help them reduce their stress, 3) to help them gain back control of their spaces and lives, and 4) to offer realistic, practical, and down to earth solutions. I love what I do!
