Blog: An Organization Diet -- Lose the clutter and drop the weight
Clear counters...clear mind!
Congratulations! You've completed your first week on my organization diet program! Jump on the scale today and let me know how you did! I did hear from several of you partaking on the program. The one question many of you had asked was which cards are to be done daily and which ones are to be done during the course of the week. Let me clarify: Once you have written out all your diet and exercise cards, they are to be used every day throughout the program, which is six weeks long (however I might be tweaking it to fit an 8 week on-line program). The special pit stop project cards and the clutter critter card of the week is simply that week's assignment (you have 7 days to accomplish those organizing tasks). The only daily organizing card is the daily toss card, which you should have made last week. This is to remind you to keep on tossing out at least 10 clutter items from your space each day!
So, let's review: You should have the following 15 individual index cards:
8 WATER cards (or 1 WATER PITCHER card), 3 VEGETABLE cards, 2 FRUIT cards, 1 daily EXERCISE card, and 1 daily TOSS card.
These cards will be used every day, each week, throughout the program. The idea is to put the cards out on your counter or on your desk every morning and put one card at a time back into your file box after you complete the card's task (consuming one 8 oz glass of water, 1 serving of fruit, tossing out 10 random clutter items, etc.).
A great idea is to keep a journal during your time on the program. Write about how it felt to have a clean and organized refrigerator during this past week. I've come to the realization that when you have a clean and organized fridge and pantry, you are much more likely to eat healthier. Also, hopefully you have been getting some daily exercise in. Remember, even 10 minutes of running in place counts!
This week (Week 2) you will continue with your 15 base cards and add the following organization cards to complete during the next 7 days: Pit Stop Project for the week will be to clear ALL countertops and tabletops in your home! That's right, ALL of them: from the kitchen counter (how much 'stuff' do you really need to keep on your counter?), the family room coffee table, the dining table, the bathroom vanity, and your nightstand). The clutter critter to exterminate for the week is all those Pens & Pencils stuffed into drawers throughout your home. They're clogging your drawer space and there is simply no need for the average sized family to hold onto a hundred pens and pencils. (Note: all pencils you decide to keep should be sharpened and containerized). Little by little, as we begin to take back control of our homes, you should feel the 'weight' of clutter leaving us…along with your own personal pounds!
Keep the emails coming! Let me know how you're doing on the program! This is going to be a banner year! Getting control of our space will help us to get control of our bodies! They go hand in hand…you will see! Good luck this week! Keep in touch: .
