Meet Scrap Attack Scrapbooking!

I thought it would be fun to introduce you to a small business owner/friend of mine that is quite crafty and really inspires me. She owns her own online business as well as is very creative with paper crafts as well as much more. I asked her five questions just to share a little bit about her with you all!

Meet Lauri - Scrap Attack Scrapbooking

My name is Lauri and I was born and raised in the Portland, Oregon area. I currently reside in Vancouver, Washington so I am still very close to "home." I am the 3rd of 4 kids and known by my family as the "wild child!" Others may describe me as the class clown – I love joking around and making others laugh! I have 3 nephews and 2 nieces who think I am just "one of the kids!" Although I don't currently have children myself, my nieces and nephews are a very big part of my life. In fact they are the subject of most of my work.

When I was younger, my mother taught me all the crafty things that she did like sewing, painting, knitting and crocheting. Sewing was by far my favorite and I still enjoy sewing from time to time. I think arts and crafts will always be a part of my life in one way or another.

I was first introduced to scrapbooking at a Creative Memories party. I had such a blast scrapbooking that all I wanted to do was scrapbook! So as the months changed to years, I eventually decided to open a scrapbook store.

I wanted an outlet to pour my passion for this hobby and create a place for people to meet and have fun! A little while later, Scrap Attack Scrapbooking was born! My goal was to create an atmosphere where people can stop by and shop, hang out on the message boards, play and just have fun with this great hobby! I love that this hobby changes so frequently and keeps me on my toes. You never know what the next trend will be and I love that feeling of anticipation that it brings.

1. What do you do, and why do you do it?

The question should be what "don't" I do! J I own and operate Scrap Attack Scrapbooking (an online scrapbook store.) I have loved arts and crafts practically all my life – I even liked it when "art" was not cool! My passion for the last 8 years has been scrapbooking. I came to a point in my life where I just wasn't happy with what scrapbook supplies the local stores carried…so I took the bull by the horns and started my own little scrappy business. I just love anxiously waiting for the all the new collections to be released each year! Things are always changing and I just love that!

If you had an afternoon to yourself, how would you spend it?

A whole afternoon to myself? No way! I'm a little embarrassed to say that I would love to just relax on the couch with a good movie or book. I seem to live me life always on the go so it would be amazing to just relax and not worry about anything for a full afternoon! No emails to respond to, no scrapbook orders to pack…just me and my couch.

3. What is your proudest achievement?

I am most proud of the business I have built. This was all me. I received no help from my parents or family, just me and my ambition to work doing something I absolutely love. Don't get me wrong…it's been a long haul and there have been ups and downs along the way…but I wouldn't change anything about it. Every obstacle I have knocked over has taught me one more thing about how to be successful doing what I love. Growing up I always leaned on my parents to bail me out of situations or help with my finances so it really feels good to know I did all of this myself!

4. What is one piece of advice someone gave you that you agree with?

You hear it all the time, but the words "don't give up" mean a lot more to me now than they ever did before. Life is constantly throwing me curveballs and sometimes things are just out of my control. No matter what I am faced with, this is one thing that really stands out in my head. I am in control of my life and the choices I make. I've learned if you want something bad enough anything is possible. One of the other things my business has taught me is to step back and "listen" to what people are saying. This applies to my everyday life and also dealing with my customers. Growing up, I was the bull headed one that always HAD to be right. Being in the business I am I have learned that everyone has an opinion and sometimes you just need to step back and listen to what they are saying.

5. What is a decision you are contemplating?

I've always been the chubby one and even though I resolve to lose weight EVERY year, this year I really mean it. My biggest struggle is the time commitment to exercise and what type of lifestyle change I want to make. I feel like I have dieted all my life and I want to know that I will be around to see friends and family grow older. Now I just need a plan and stick to it. No more excuses for 2008!
