SIMPLIFY MORNING ROUTINE
Simplify your children's dressing routines. Try not to fight about clothes in the morning. Your daughter will not be the first to wear a tu tu and ballet shoes to day care. You can always send a more reasonable outfit with her in case she needs to change during the day.
One reason children demand certain clothing is to exercise new found feelings of power. Often you can prevent such conflicts by giving the child a sense of power. Let your youngster pick whatever he wants to wear and don't fret if the outfit doesn't match. Or, give the child choices that you approve of. For example, you might say, "Would you like to wear your little piggy overalls or your teddy bear sweat suit tomorrow?
If you're having trouble getting your youngster dressed in the morning, ask you husband or and older sibling to take on this job. Maybe for reasons of temperament, they'll have better results. If that doesn't work, you might be able to take your toddler in his pajamas depending on where you're going.
To speed up the morning routine try serving easy breakfasts. Cold cereal and milk is always a good choice or whole-wheat toast and cheese. Instant oatmeal in the microwave cooks up fast. Whole-grain waffles with fruit could be an option. These are all nutritious, delicious breakfasts that are a snap to make. Or, if you love to cook, make and freeze healthful muffins or pancakes on the weekend, and heat them up on the weekday mornings.
Consider the possibility that life might be easier if everyone eats in the car. A box of juice and a whole-wheat bagel are relatively mess-free in the hands of school-age children.
With a little thinking and planning ahead you can save yourself a lot of stress and simplify your morning routine.
