Digital Filing with Evernote

Have you ever needed a "virtual or digital" notebook or filing system? Well, I know I'm constantly looking for ways to keep paper to a minimum without losing valuable information or time.  Sometimes you need more than a sticky note to remember ideas or information too.  Evernote (http://www.evernote.com) is an online electronic storage solution that doesn't just keep track of all the notes you create, it keeps them organized, electronic and easily searchable in one "digital file cabinet." Whether it's a web page,...

Simple Online Bibliography Tool

There is an abundance of technology gadgets, software, computers and websites for students today, but how do you know which ones are actually useful and effective?  I've recently discovered one that I wish I had when I was in high school and college.   It's called EasyBib and it's an online application which allows you to create bibliographies by simply entering the source information from books, magazines, newspapers, interviews, and even music and TV. The Modern Language Association (MLA) format is free, and it's an inexpensive upgrade if you need APA or Chicago...

Nielsen deletes "reply to all" button

How much time do you spend reading, responding to and deleting unwanted or unnecessary emails?  Do you get stuck on an email thread about topics that don't require your attention?  What about the emails from friends or coworkers that CC: you and everyone else in your address book? Well, here's an interesting (and humorous) article about how one company decided to tackle the cluttered email inbox. Read it and tell me what you...

iPhone + IKEA = Organized Shopping

For all you iPhone and IKEA lovers, there's a new mobile application that will make shopping even easier.  It's called "Swede Shop" and looks something like the image above.  Type in the item name, set a price and dial in the aisle and bin.  You can also add notes, priority or image.  No more need for the mini pencil and scraps of paper talk about neat!  It only costs $0.99 cents to download.  Learn more about it here....

Multi-tasking with your cell phone

I've discovered another cool mobile application called Quipit that will allow you to take pictures of paper documents or notes on a whiteboard and turn them into digital files (pdfs). Since it seems like we're never without our camera phones, this is a quick and compact way to store and share files while on the go!

  • Email or fax qipit digital copies via email, your online Qipit account, or right from your phone
  • Store all of your paper documents and notes as digital documents for easy archiving and sharing
  • Tag your qipit documents for easy searching and...

Are sticky notes taking over your computer?

Sticky notes are one of my favorite things to use while organizing.  However, they can cause clutter if they aren't used in a streamlined way.  Sticky notes should be used as a tool, but they shouldn't replace things such as your electronic calendar or notebook.  If your computer monitor is starting to look like the above picture, then it's time to try http://www.notewhen.com

NoteWhen is a virtual sticky note that lets you stick notes on your monitor electronically.  You can use...

Tackling the Tangled Mess of Gadgets

How far can you make it down the street before you notice someone with a phone to their ear, a laptop bag slung over their shoulder, those signature white ear buds blasting their favorite songs, or tiny Blackberry buttons being compulsively pressed by chronically cramped thumbs?  Likely, not very far at all.

According to the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), on average, each American household owns 25 consumer electronics products, many of which are portable electronic devices.  For example, CEA estimates there are 178.5 million cell phones in use daily and that 32% of Americans own an MP3 player.   Clearly, portable electronics are becoming an essential part of life.  In most cases, gadgets are...
