Off-Season Clothing Storage
Now is the time of year to bring out your spring clothing and put away all those bulky winter duds. When storing your off-season clothing, follow these practical guidelines to avoid damage from insects, mildew and mold. Important
Be sure to wash and dry all garments thoroughly before storing.

Spring is here!
With a temperature of 60 degrees here in Boston today, I found myself pulling out my bins of summer clothes and trying things on for fit. (Sadly, not everything fit as we as last year). Now is a great time to asses your wardrobe and purge clothing. Use these following guidelines:
- If you haven't worn it all winter, toss it! There is no sense in letting them waste valuable storage real estate for another year.
- If it doesn't fit, toss it! Be realistic about the clothes that you are keeping in hopes of fitting into them again. If you do lose weight, wouldn't you rather treat yourself to a nice, new outfit?

Great New Closet Systems!
The Container Store has a new product: Freestanding Elfa Systems. I just assembled one for a client last week. They are fantastic! It takes no time to put them together (unlike the systems you have to spend hours mounting to a wall). They look and function just like the traditional Elfa systems...meaning, they are sturdy, adjustable, and great for storing anything. If you are thinking of a closet re-do, seriously consider this system. The best part is, if you move or decide you want it somewhere else, you won't be left with holes in your...

Smart Packing, part 1
This week I went on vacation to Northern California. I spent a couple of days in wine country and a couple of days skiing. I tried as best I could to pack and prepare for this trip...but, I spent most of the time freezing. The most important thing to remember when packing is to layer. And...make sure one of those layers includes a nice warm fleece! I guarantee it will come in handy whether the air conditioning is turned too high, or a freak cold front passes through. I will have more packing tips next week, so stay...

Alternatives to the yearly clothing purge
If you're lucky like I am and have an awesome little sister who buys you cool new clothes for Christmas...well, you might need to purge a bit to make room in your closet. Or, if you're handy...installing a double hanging rod is a great way to maximize your closet storage space. :-) They are available at Home Depot and very reasonably priced. ($22 for a 5' shelf and rod). Also, the Container Store is having a 30% off sale on their Elfa closet systems this month. They will help you put together a design based on the dimensions. You can also hire a Professional Organizer to help with the design (we also do the installation). Good...

Tackling clothes closets can be daunting. Instead of pulling everything out of the closet and spending hours trying to go through it all, take out a few pieces at a time and asses each item. If you process a few items each day, you will have your clothes pared down in no time!...
