Estimating Time Properly to Create LeisureTime

I get allergy injections on a weekly basis.  It's 20 minutes there, 10 to wait to get in, 2 for the shots, 30 for the required waiting afterwards, and then 20 minutes back home.  SO about 1.5 hours per week I spend dealing with these shots.  This is something new for me.  I just started last month.  I had to make it a priority and fit that 1.5 hours into my week.  THat's quite a bit of time, but I'm able to do it....

Change One Thing, Change Your Life

Let's say you could change or do one thing this month that would make a huge difference in your overall life.  What would it be?

Would it be to purge in your garage?  Begin reconciling your checkbook?  Set up a chore chart for your children?  Stop drinking so much caffeine?  Start a new habit, such as making your bed everyday?  Get a massage?  Set up regular massage appointments?  Organize your Tupperware cupboard?

What's blocking you?

Too Effcient = Inefficient?

Simple Beginning Organizing Tips

Simple Beginning Organizing Tips

Organizing is an attitude.  Before you even begin to organize your life and the physical clutter in it, you need to think like an organized person. Adopt the mentality. And remember, your life did not get in its current state overnight, nor will you correct it overnight. Be patient with yourself. Ask for help.  And most importantly make it FUN!

Do What You Have To - And Enjoy It - To Do What You Want To

"We do what we have to do so we can do what we want to do."  I just read that quote from Denzel Washington.  He was interviewed in O, The Oprah Magazine this month.

Emotional Organizing: What to Do With Those 'Negative' Feelings

What can we do about the feelings we stir up when organizing our stuff?  So often we get emotional when organizing, especially purging.  Why?  What are the triggers?  What are the emotions most commonly felt?

Guilt is common.  We may carry guilt surrounding something we did or didn't do.  What is guilt anyway?  Merriam-Webster defines it as, "feelings of culpability especially for imagined offenses or from a sense of inadequacy"...

Are you ready for your holidays??

Are you rushing here and there, all frazzled and stressed out?  Do you feel so busy that you can't even enjoy the holidays?

Grab a mug of eggnog, stop, sit in front of a fire, and ask yourself, "What is my reason for the season?"  The answer does not have to be religious-based at all, although it can be.

Why do you celebrate what you celebrate?  What is important about it?  What do you want to pull out or remember?  What do you want to teach your kids?  What traditions do you want to uphold or create?

How Your Christmas Wish List Can Represent Your Family Values

The kids are fast and furiously writing their Christmas lists - it's a week after Halloween you know.  They give me the lists and the first thing I think is, "Wow!  My kids are so greedy!"  Then I remembered how exciting it was when the Fall Sears catalog came.  My siblings and I would glance through it, but only briefly because the fun was right before Thanksgiving when my mom would ask us what we wanted for Christmas.

Recent Surge of Toy Recalls Prompts Look at Christmas/Toy Values

"Do you know how many dangerous toys are in your house?" I recently asked a client who had hired me to organize her toy room. "Like guns, weapon-type things you mean?" She replied.

With the recent surge in toy recalls, those of you with kids, especially young kids, need to take a look at the things your children are playing with.  It's not just small or hazardous parts anymore, either.  A lot of the most recent recalls are because of substandard regulation of lead-based paint.  Check out the US Consumer Product Safety Commission for a list of recalls.

Do you Really Need Socks?!

One of the things I help my clients do as they learn how to manage time, is to determine their priorities.  Once priorities are known, decision-making is a snap and you are no longer wasting time on things that are not important.
There are basically 5 main ways to determine priorities, but recently I was helping someone with needs vs. wants and thought it would make a good blog post.
You always want to take care of your needs first, but you need to distinguish between the 2 in order to do that.  Sometimes the lines get blurred as to what's really a need and what's a want.
If you take care of your needs first, a lot of times, you no longer want what you wanted in the first place!...
