the power of limits

I was browsing at Target yesterday, when I stumbled upon the clearance rack. (What women isn't attracted to the clearance rack like a bug to a bright light? Not this one, that's for sure.) While perusing the sale items, I suddenly realized I was in the maternity section. I reminisced about that blissful time: pregnancy. Oh, sure, anticipating the arrival of my baby was blissful…but what I'm really talking about was the blissful simplicity of my maternity wardrobe.   Choices were limited.   Decisions were simple.   Life was easier.   All because of limits.   With my maternity wardrobe I didn't overbuy…I knew being pregnant was a short term proposition. So I loaded up on basic wardrobe...

Apply Organizational Ideas from Sewing to Scrapbooking

Hello there! I just got back from visiting my family in Washington State.  It was sort of an early Christmas for me, since I have to work over the holidays this year.  I spent a week doing nothing but watching QVC, HGTV, sewing with my mom, trying new recipes; just being a home-body for a change, and it was great!   Inspiration Inspired by my mom's sewing room I want to share some features of her room that I think will apply to those of us who scrap.    Paper or Fabric? Mom, like most good seamstresses, loves fabric and has more fabric than she can ever use.  But does that stop her from buying more? No!  (Can you relate to your ever-growing paper stash …)...

Projects of Inspiration

Thinking about planning some projects for the holidays? So often between the tree decorating, cookie baking and holiday shopping there isn't much time to create. I have often found that if I don't have a record of my ideas... they are lost forever!

The sad thing is that a lot of my "crafting" has been boxed up and ready for our impending move. I have been really craving a good afternoon of crafting for the holidays... but no time or energy to pull everything out of boxes just to box it all up again when I am done.

Cutting Tools Need Special Attention

Hi there scrapbookers!           I would like to share organization solutions for cutting tools.  It is important to keep our tools sharp and in working order, but to also keep other members of the household safe, especially if you have children or pets.           Safe Storage ·        I keep scissors in ceramic mugs on my desk with their tips pointed down inside the mug.  I keep rubber safety tips on the smaller ones.  ·        I keep my rotary cutter in the "closed" position facing down inside a mug. ·       ...

Makin' a list and checking it twice!

Lists aren't just for Santa anymore!

Believe me, making a list can make or break the success of your day or maybe your project. Sometimes even just a short list can help you stay on track. Here's what happens when you DON'T make a list...

  1. Things, pieces or products get forgotten.
  2. Extra trips to the store, down the hall or into your storage space to get what you forgot.
  3. Duplication of efforts.
  4. Missed appointments, calls or events.
  5. Wasted time looking for or trying to complete things.

Do you get my drift yet? Do you see where I am going?

Fit Scrapbooking into Your Jam-Packed Holiday Schedule

If you love to scrapbook…finding time to do it is always a top priority. But, with the holidays, and all the extra to-do's that come along with them, scrapbooking can easily go by the way side. With a few organizing (and simplifying!) strategies, coupled with simplified approach to scrapbooking, you can have your (holiday fruit) cake and scrapbook, too. (You thought I was going to say "eat it, too," didn't you? I know you did. But does anyone actually eat fruit cake?)   I digress—back to simplifying for the sake of scrapbooking during the holidays. Here are some ideas:   Scrapbook with friends. The holidays are a great time to get together with friends. Why not have a get together with your...

Photo Storage Solutions

Hey there creative ones!          How was your Thanksgiving? Did you take lots of family photos? I know I did. Now that I have bunches of new photos, what am I going to do about storage?  It depends, of course, on whether I used a digital camera or conventional SLR (or point and shoot) camera.       Photo Drawer                  Back in the day, before digital everything, our family kept our photos in the envelopes from the developer.  We kept all these envelopes in a dedicated "photo drawer."  When they piled up, mom got them out and made an album. ...

Let the Games Begin... My Top 5 Fun Festivities Made Easy

I can't tell you how excited that today is Black Friday. Not only do I see this as the "big day" is quickly approaching, but it gives me a chance to really start to slow down and enjoy the holidays. We love to do little crafts around the house, make holiday cookies, get the holiday cards written (which I just ordered)... well you get the idea.

For some, Black Friday begins the dreaded list of busy schedules, things to plan and decorating to do. The holidays should be a fun and enjoyable time of year... not work.
