Moving is a huge pain in the neck -- one of the top five biggest STRESSES you will ever experience in your life. Just think of everything you have to do -- cleaning out, packing finding the right realtor, selecting a mover, shopping for a new place to live, transferring your utilities, changing your address, buying or selling a house, getting SETTLED in -- what a nightmare! But a lot of the difficulties people experience during a move are directly related to poor or incomplete planning. A little preparation can make all the difference. This month, we're going to focus on some simple strategies you can use to make your next move as PAINLESS as possible.
Create a moving CHECKLIST of everything you need do to relocate your entire life. Talk to others who have moved so you don't forget anything. Then assign a deadline for completing each item -- just follow your list for a successful move.
Think about the pros and cons of hiring a MOVER versus doing it yourself. It is more expensive to hire a mover, but you reduce a great deal of the hassle associated with a move, save time, and save your back when you let someone else do the work.
If you don't need it or haven't used it in years, leave it BEHIND. Why pay for extra space on a moving truck to carry clutter with you to your new home? Have a yard sale, take your things to a consignment store, or call a local charity to pick up your donation.
