Have you every thought about taking up public SPEAKING as a career? Having to stand in front of a crowd and deliver an address is our society's number one fear. But thousands of people do just that -- presenting workshops, seminars, and keynote speeches for a living. They help us learn, MOTIVATE us to improve our lives, and guide us in our business and financial decisions. But most of all, they inspire us to move in a more positive direction. This month, we offer some tips for getting the most out of any talk you attend -- and some links for PROFESSIONAL speakers and amateurs who want to improve their public speaking skills.
When attending a workshop, bring a tape RECORDER -- taking notes while listening is very distracting. And being able to absorb the same presentation over and over again improves your chances of assimilating the information into your own life.
Don't try to write down every detail of a speech. Instead, focus on listing key POINTS. Create a new heading each time the speaker shifts topics, and list important items beneath the appropriate heading using bullets to keep your thoughts clear.
When the talk is over, go through your workshop MATERIALS immediately, while everything is fresh in your mind. Decipher cryptic notes, consolidate information into a logical outline format, and toss extra paperwork that you don't need to keep.
