Boxing Day was traditionally a time when alms boxes were opened for the POOR. The needy would receive clothes, food, and other necessities from every household in town. What a nice way to give after you have done so much receiving during the month of December! You can build a little CHARITY into your holiday season (while reducing your own clutter) by cleaning out and giving your discards to someone in need. I'll bet that you can find plenty of excess "stuff" if you just go through your closets. Then find a local non-profit that will accept a DONATION. And if you don't have anything to clean out, you can always give of your time!
Start your cleaning out with a simple phrase -- is it beautiful, useful, or loved? If your belongings don't fall into one of these three CATEGORIES, why are you keeping them? Begin the new year fresh by clearing out some of the clutter in your life.
What better time to teach your children the joy of GIVING -- as well as the importance of letting go of things they don't use anymore. "You got so many gifts this holiday -- wouldn't it be nice to give some of your old toys to kids who don't have any?"
Find a local CHARITY that could make good use of your donation. No matter what your "crusade" -- homelessness, domestic violence, animal abuse, teen pregnancy -- you can find an organization that would be happy to accept your discards.
