Is “Spring housekeeping” an antiquated term reserved for June Cleaver? Or is it something you still love to do? Sans the pearls, of course. Even if you don’t call it by that term, every nest can use some SEASONAL care. So, let’s focus on some ways to spruce up your home/office to energize you this Spring!
A NEW BEGINNING
Springtime is a time for rebirth and GROWTH. Decluttering leaves space for new growth, moving things around stirs up energy, and adding a few living things to your space all encourage change. Make seasonal changes in your artwork, your clothing, and your home accessories. Simple alterations will REVITALIZE feelings of awareness and appreciation for your surroundings, and create a refreshing flow of energy in your home. Try it; you’ll be amazed at what subtle changes can do for you; it’s like wearing a new (Easter) outfit.
HAVE A GOOD TIME
Make cleaning and organizing FUN! Turn on some energetic music, wear a bright comfortable outfit, open the windows for fresh air, and have drinking water at hand. Set small, attainable goals, and rewards for yourself, like if you finish the kitchen in two hours, then you can go to a movie Remember to sort, purge, put things near where they are used, and utilize appropriate containers. Resolve to donate, sell on Ebay, or toss that which you no longer use, or love. Getting rid of old STAGNANT stuff allows for great new energy to flow into the emptied spaces.
A LITTLE BIT DOES A LOT
Feel overwhelmed about tackling a whale of a house/office? Just take it a step at a time, a room at time, or a file at a time. If you like quick results, pick the smallest job/room first to see that accomplishment, and then move to the next size (as long as you promise to move to the larger ones until completion). Or, simply list your rooms on slips of paper and draw one slip from a hat once a week, or once a month. Resolve to complete one room at a time until all are done. Then repeat again so that it is a continuous PROCESS all year long (this should really keep the clutter down).
MONTH BY MONTH
Another way to tackle the entire house/office is to have a routine ROTATION schedule, like every January you clean out your bedroom, and every August the garage, and so forth. If you choose that method, and have 12 or less rooms, you should get to every room each year at least once. Be certain to add this ‘to do’ to your monthly planner (and every year it will be easier as you should have less to declutter).
