The Chinese character for “crisis” or “adversity” is the same as for the word “opportunity”. It means that when faced with a difficult situation we have the chance to turn it into an OPPORTUNITY for personal growth. And this is especially true for entrepreneurs, who must handle business adversity as both the boss and the employee!
DEALING WITH THE HARD TIMES IN BUSINESS
Rejection and SETBACKS can have a dramatic impact on our self-esteem, especially for entrepreneurs. Confucius said, “Consider the uses of adversity.” Don’t beat yourself up when occasional setbacks occur in your business. Turn them into unique opportunities!
SOME FAILURE IS INEVITABLE
You’re not going to turn every prospect into a client and sometimes you’ll fall flat on your face. REJECTION happens at least some of the time. But it gives you the opportunity to rise to the occasion and make something POSITIVE happen as a result. Aldous Huxley once said, “Experience is not what happens to a man; it is what a man does with what happens to him.”
KEEP A SENSE OF PERSPECTIVE
Don’t blow failure out of proportion. If you fail at one thing, don’t assume you ARE a failure! Check your attitude and remind yourself this is a TEMPORARY setback, not the end of the world.
DECIDE WHAT YOUR IDEA OF SUCCESS IS
Don’t count yourself as a failure if you don’t live up to somebody else's STANDARD of achievement. Define success on your terms. Are a huge house, fancy vacations, and an expensive car the marks of success to you? Or do you want the freedom to live your life according to your own rules? You may ALREADY be succeeding beautifully according to your own definition of success and not even realize it.
CELEBRATE REJECTION AND SETBACKS
You heard me -- both are cause for rejoicing. Remember what they mean -– that you have tried to ACCOMPLISH something! Feel good about the fact that you are out there doing it.
TALK ABOUT YOUR FEELINGS
Very often entrepreneurs lack the benefit of another co-worker or supervisor’s perspective and FEEDBACK. If you don’t have a professionally based support system (other entrepreneurs or associates) -– get one! No one will understand your problems quite as well as someone who’s been there. They may even have tips and coping STRATEGIES to help you over the rough spots.
IGNORE THE MASSES
Don't worry about what other people THINK of your success or failure. You don’t want the opinion of anyone who is unsupportive of you for pursuing your passion!
Take time out for YOURSELF. Your main objective here is to refresh and recharge your batteries. Do something totally fun and unrelated to your daily routine.
Never underestimate the POWER of good friends. They are crucial when you need someone to talk to about a problem –- or a success!
HELP OTHER PEOPLE
This is a critical element to living a balanced life. Remember the “giving chain”. If somebody helps you while you are STRUGGLING with your business, look for opportunities to help someone else. We’re all in this together.
LEARN TO LAUGH
Don’t take yourself too SERIOUSLY. A good sense of humor is a true gift! You may not be able to change a bad situation, but a sense of humor can put you back on top of things again.
Keep your focus on what you want to achieve with Positive Mental Attitude. NEVER stop believing for a second in yourself and your goals. Remember – we only fail when we let our fears keep us from trying!
