Clean Out Your Computer Day

Is your computer as cluttered as your file cabinet? Do you have a huge mass of loose documents just floating around in your hard DRIVE -- files you don't even recognize, with unintelligible naming conventions? Are you guilty of hoarding old disks -- even after you've uninstalled the program to run those files? Even people with the most organized offices often have a hard time keeping their COMPUTERS in order. Somehow, when it's on a screen and not in your hand, it's harder to organize! Take a moment to go through your hard drive and disks. Let's clear out the OBSOLETE and set up a system for your current computer files.

Some Practical Organizing Tips...

Don't dump every file you create loose into the C-drive. Reserve one drive for program files and another for working files (documents you have created). And store your documents in FOLDERS -- divided into logical categories -- for easy retrieval.
Have a logical SYSTEM for labeling your computer files -- like the document and the date the file was created. Include the time if you create multiple drafts in one day. Consider including the author if more than one person uses your system.
Be sure to BACK UP regularly -- storing individual files on a disk, or backing-up your entire computer all at once. Back up a minimum of every week -- or set up an automatic backup that will save your files to to a tape or zip drive daily.
