Addictions Month

When you think of addictions, you probably picture the really SERIOUS ones -- alcoholism, drug use, and overeating. But other addictions can be just as damaging. Are you addicted to work -- sacrificing your personal life in favor of career achievement? How about SHOPPING -- do you find that you can't walk out the front door without buying something? Some people are even addicted to ACTIVITY -- mistakenly equating "busy" with "productive." All of us harbor some addictive behaviors. But it becomes a problem when your addiction affects your quality of life -- causing clutter, eating up your free time, and making you unhappy.

Some Practical Organizing Tips...

Do you have BALANCE between your work and personal lives? How long are your work days? Do you regularly give up weekends for your job? Maybe it's time to re-evaluate your priorities. Few dying people ever say, "I wish I had worked more."
Stop defining yourself by what you ACCOMPLISH. You are more than what you get done -- you would still be a valuable human being even if you didn't do anything! And a list full of crossed-off "to-do's" doesn't make a fulfilled life.
The next time you get ready to hit the mall, ask if you really NEED to buy something or are shopping for another reason. If you're bored, get a hobby. If you're lonely, make a friend. Deal with the reason and you will cure the habit.
